  • Like any large city Moscow features many gay cruising areas, in Russian dubbed "pleshka" (singular) or "pleshki" (plural). Public attitude to such meeting places varies from feigned ignorance to contempt. Gay bashing, called "remont" ("repair") in Russian, does not occur very often. Still, "militia" ("police") is very reluctant to meddle with homosexuals and if you happen to fell victim of violence or robbery, you are likely to be denied official protection. "Pleshki" are mostly visited by professional hustlers and poor students or seniors. The largest one on Kitai-Gorod (see below) has a number of its partons who come there every evening to dish with their friends.

The best gay cruising place in Moscow, it never stays empty and attracts up to several hundred men in warm summer evenings. Part of the green square between the chapel to the heroes of Plevna and the monument to Cyril and Methodius (Metro Kitai-Gorod). Occasionally police patrols run ID checks.

Kitai-Gorod is the cruising place in Moscow. In the unlikely event that you are not fortunate enough there, you can try your luck in the following places.

The benches around the monument to Pushkin and Goncharova at the Nikitskikh Vorot square (Metro Arbatskaya, Pushkinskaya). Also the public WC behind the monument to Timiryazeff (dubbed "TASS toilet").

Alexandrovsky garden between the Kremlin walls and Okhotny ryad shopping mall. Soldiers and teenagers often cruise there. Metro Borovitskaya and Ploschad' Revolutsii.

The part of the Pushkinskaya square between the monument to Pushkin and Pushkinsky cinema (Metro Pushkinskaya).

Public WCs on all seven Moscow railway stations (Bielorussky, Kievsky, Savelovsky, Yaroslavsky, Rizhsky, Leningradsky and Kazansky) are very cruisy.
